A friend of mine is on a diet. He lost inches instead of pounds ... how can that be?
I told him that he probably lost fluid.

- He probably did lose quite a bit of water weight, but he also might have traded his "body fat weight" with more "lean muscle weight".
- if he has been exercising too he is building lean muscle which would explain losing inches but no pounds cause muscle weighs more than fat....
- is he exercising? if so he probably has converted fat into muscle.
- Is he doing exercise? If he does that is the reason: exercise makes you lose inches, not necessarily weight, because muscle weights more than fat.
- If he runs a lot to exercise it is probably water weight, but if he started lifting or anything it could be muscle. And Muscle wieghts more then fat.
- It is possible to loose inches instead of pounds because mucsle ways more than fat. It could be water weight also, but more than likely he is turning his body into more mucsle and like I said it weights more than fat.... SO less inches same weight. Tell your friend congratulations!
- If he exercised a lot he most likely converted the fat weight into muscle weight. This would be the only logical explanation for what you described. Fluid loss will be weight loss. Most often the first 5 - 10 pounds lost dieting is water weight.
