How can I lose inches and NOT weight? Is there a diet and exercise plan for this?

  1. Weight lift.
  2. In order to lose inches you have to lose weight. Kind of a dumb question.
  3. To lose inches means you need to lose weight, as those "inches" are fatty deposits. A way to counteract this is to gain muscle as you diet. So put in a good weight lifting plan in with your exercise/diet, and you will get the results you are looking for.
  4. Someone said to cross train with weights or weight lift which is a great idea. The best way to maintain your weight and lose inches around you middle, thighs etc. is to make sure you eat enough calories in the day compared to your activity level. You can watch your diet by using user friendly websites like FitDay.com and MyFoodDiary.com. I prefer MyFoodDiary and am close to reaching my goal of adding some muscle to my small frame. Oh and just so you know...muscle weighs more then fat, so the more you work out the more possible muscle you can build, but you have to eat enough to build the muscle and to burn the fat. People who are trying to lose weight wonder why they lose weight the first couple of weeks and then gain weight...sometimes it is water weight they are retaining and a lot of times they have built some muscle. Weighing yourself is a bad means of determining if you are losing weight when dieting. It is always best to check how many inches you have lost around your middle, thighs, etc. I always suggest to people to pick an outfit that they haven't been able to get into in a couple years and use that as means of reaching their target goal or a step to reaching their goal.
  5. The best way to lose weight is doing exercise. The best type of exercise for weight loss is something you ENJOY DOING and are likely to continue doing - not just while losing weight but also as you maintain weight in the long term. Your initial fitness goal should be to do 30 minutes of exercise each day. Thereafter, gradually increase this (ideally) to about 60 minutes of exercise per day. The best combination of exercise is a mixture of aerobic and weight/strength training (and stretching). Aerobic and weight/strength training exercises both assist weight loss but in different ways.
