Lost 5 lbs in 16 days but no inches lost from the belly?

After having my baby, i was not able to start exercising immediately. Now after 6 months when i am finally into it, I lost 5 lbs in 16 days! Very Happy about it though. I eat right, keep a eating journal, exercise on the elliptical and do some yoga. I regularly do crunches for my abs and work my obliques as well. Ouch ............my tummy hurt these days. But today when i measured my belly, it was the same. 36 inches:-( My friends say they can see a difference on my face and my legs but why don't I see any diff on my belly!!! :(((

  1. Hey there. The general consensus is that with most people, when you start to lose fat, the fat loss tends to occur at the places where you last put the fat on. This is the reason why most people start to lose it from the face and upper body first. The "hardest" and last place to lose bodyfat tends to be the stomach area. There are a variety of reasons for this, one of which includes the fact your body actually considers the stomach region to be the most "efficient" place to store fat in the sense that's the place where it needs to do the least amount of work to carry it all around. So, just be consistent and persistent with your regimen, and in time you will start to lose fat from that area. Oh, and one more thing: please note that ab crunches won't really do anything to take the fat off your stomach. Sure, it works the abdominals, but you must be primarily focused on dropping bodyfat rather than simply working those muscles. Keep up your work on the elliptical - that's a very efficient calorie burner which will do more for your goal of reducing your tummy than the crunches ever will.
  2. people will hold on to fat in different places. that might be the last place your body lets go of it. also some of the weight you lost might be water weight or you have lost some on your tummy but if your muscles are sore, then they're holding lactic acid, which could be why there isnt a difference on the measuring tape.
