Can anyone tell me how it is possible to lose inches and not lose any weight? Thank you.?

This just baffles my mind! I have been doing a 2mile DVD every day for about 3 weeks now, and it kicks my butt, and I feel better in my clothes, but the scale has not moved. Thanks for your input.

  1. Are you sure your scale even works properly?
  2. You are building muscle, good job! Muscle "weighs" more than fat, so you are right on target since you are losing the fat and replacing it with muscle. Good for you, keep it up!
  3. With exercise, you could be burning fat but building muscle. The extra muscle adds to your weight, but is more dense than the fat you burn, so you are thinner.
  4. you lose fat that makes your waist smaller. you gain muscle which weighhs much more than fat.
  5. You must be exercising a lot and gaining muscle - which weighs more than fat. Hence you lose inches but not pounds.
  6. increase in muscle mass. likely, you have gained leg muscle. as muscle is denser than fat, you can still lose inches, but not weight. I don't know the ratio, but for the sake of trying to explain, lets stay for a wild example you lost three inches of fat on your thighs, you could have gained an inch of muscle, thus have a noticeably thinner thigh, but not have lost any weight.
  7. You CAN lose inches and not pounds. When you exercise, you build muscle, which weighs more than fat. To lose pounds you also need to reduce calorie intake along with the exercise.
