Trying to lose weight - dancing? Any ideas of dance tunes?

I'm 13, 5 foot 10 inches and I weigh 11st 7. I want to get down to 10st 7. I have a BMI of 23 which is good I know but I just have some flab round my stomach and I want to lose that. Anyway, I'm going to dance for about 15-20 minutes each day to dance tunes e.g. the Macarena and the Cha-Cha Slide. And I'm going to eat healthier than before but I'm not going to over-do it and not eat at all - that's just stupid... How long do you think it will take to lose 1st - my Mum says because I'm a teenager I'll lose it quicker than an adult - is this true? Why? Also, can you suggest any other dance tunes (like the ones above that I could dance to and would work off a lot of calories too. Any other suggestions of exercise would be appreciated too.. I have a busy lifestyle because of school and everything so even though I would love to, I can't go swimming everyday and I'm not too keen on running. Any suggestions of what I could do that I wouldn't get bored of quickly? Thanks! Lorna I know it sounds silly but would doing things like star-jumps and body-twists in the morning help? Lorna

  1. Wow. You're sorta big for your age... Like both in height and weight... Um. Well. I suppose it will...
  2. your mom was right because as you get older your metabolism slows down so right now your not in that catorgery. John Folgerty is who I dance to. I bought he's concert on DVD and its wicket. You also said you dont like to run, well take a long walk with one of your friends. It makes you feel so good and I have a busy life style to.
  3. Hmm, if you're really iffy about it, then yes dancing would do. It's like running, only with music and it's much more fun. You'd get the same effect if you do it constantly. Try doing ballet, or breakdancing, or whatever dancing you wanna try. I for one am about to try capoeira. It's dancing with martial arts. The concept's like that I think. There's also swimming. Although swimming could give you some unwanted muscles, this is very effective in both weight loss and body toning. And by swimming, I don't mean dog paddling in the pool or wading in the beach. I mean competitive swimming. You could also try joining your school's dance club. That way, you won't have a hard time getting to know new people that much. You'd have more friends too. TO ADD: Dancing 15-20 minutes per day might not show significant effects. Try joining a class. On the subject of effects, don't expect it too early. Depending on your workout, and your metabolism, it could take a while or take a just a few weeks.
