How to lose inches

lose inches fast

On a diet and losing inches but not a lot of pounds?

I've been on a (healthy) exercise and low-calorie diet since the middle of May... so for about 2 months. I've lost 4 inches off my waist and I look a lot more toned and better... but I've only lost about 10 pounds. Any reason for this? Is it good? And what does it mean that I've lost minimal pounds but my appearance has changed significantly? I get frustrated when I step on the scale but it's nice looking in the mirror! Thanks!

  1. lol.. a lot of women have this problem. dont worry about it.. really. it's just that you are loosing fat, but gaining lean (key word) muscle mass...muscle doesnt actually *weigh* more than fat. its like a lb of feathers weighs the same amount as a lb of bricks... but the bricks take up less space so we think of it as *weighing* more. take your measurements--- you can see if your weight has become more compact (takes up less space) and you can usually attribute that to not just fat loss but muscle gain. it doesn't matter how much you weigh.. it matters whether you are satisfied with your appearance or not. just keep doing what you're doing. good job on loosing the weight!
  2. because thats just how it is, maybe u gained muscle muscle weighs more than fat, so maybe u lost some fat, and gained some muscle. ;
  3. Throw the scale out the window. Seriously! The reason you're probably not dropping a lot of weight is that you're adding muscle tone. You're already being smart by measuring your waist. Muscle is much more dense than fat. So a similar size of muscle tissue would weigh about 20% more than the same size area of fat. Example: My little brother is a very conditioned athlete, yet he weighs a lot because of his muscle mass (the standard BMI formula labels him as overweight), he has a 28 inch waist. I know it's hard, but really try to ignore the scale. Congratulations on your success and I hope you achieve your goal body type!
  4. It basically means that you don't need to lose a lot of weight to get back into shape. This is actually a great thing. There's no reason for you to want to see a certain number on your scale. If you are healthy, you will look healthy. Inches lost and toned muscles is much better than losing 30 pounds (unless you REALLY need to lose 30 pounds). If you don't have a lot of "weight" to lose and you start dropping pounds, you are probably losing water and muscles anyway. Keep up whatever you are doing. It sounds like you are doing great. And stay healthy most of all.
