Losing weight but gaining inches???
I've been doing the Dr Phil Ultimate Weight Solutions and having a lot of luck. I feel better than I've felt in a LONG time. I've been at it for 6 days now. I am nursing my 13 month old son so I've dedicated myself to 1600 calories a day. I went from a standard american diet in excess of 2500 calories a day with no exercise at all. Now I exercise for 20ish minutes a day plus regular house work. I cheated yesterday and weighed myself on day 5 of my new life and I've lost 4 or 5 lbs (hard to tell with my scale). So I decided, what the heck, I'll measure myself. I am UP in measurements by .5 - 1 inch for each section. WHY am I weighing less but measuring bigger??????? - You're building muscle.
- Gaining muscle?
- I'd say you've built up abs under your fat but it's only been 6 days. That would take about a month to build it up that much. Could be that you've started to retain more water because of your decrease caloric intake - you'll drain out in a couple of days, once your body returns to homeostasis, if this is really the case. Conversely, it's possible you've lost water.... Drink a lot of water in either case, once your body knows it's alright because you'll keep giving it plenty, it'll stop adapting and let the excess water go out from your system like normal. Hydration is the most important nutritional element of all believe it or not. Use distilled (prevents cancer) or reverse osmosis (if you're more worried about getting enough minerals for your breast milk). Give him flourinated water - the crap really works, I'm SO glad my mother gave it to me!
- You are losing muscle, not gaining. Muscle is denser than fat, so a muscular body will weigh more than a flabby one. So you gain pounds when you build muscle. This is good because your metabolism speeds up. Because muscle is denser than fat, the body would be toner (slimmer). You would lose inches. Incorporate some light weight training into your workouts.
