Is losing inches, better or just as good as losing weight?

I joined the gym and had been working out really hard. I have been eating healthy, and drinking water. I only lost two pounds, since September but I have lost inches. I am not going to give up, just keep working out 3 days a week and every weekend for an hour and half. I do a combination of weight lifting and cardio. What more can I do? What am I am wrong?

  1. losing inches is a better measure of getting into shape. you have probably lost weight too, but muscle gain has made up for the number on the scale. losing inches means you have lost fat, which means you have also "lost weight"...it's just that working out also builds muscle (which is good because it raises your metabolism and burns more calories) and the muscle in outweighing the fat loss.
  2. I saw a show on HGTV or something once where they talked more about taking inches off around the tummy, because they fat around the tummy causes the most health problems.
  3. it really much or less about loosing inches. Because weight comes from muscle also you can be 5 5 and 140 pounds and be thin with muscle. so it really is about loosing inches not pounds.
  4. Yes, losing inches is better than weight. I weigh more now that I did 10 years ago but I wear a smaller pant size, so yes, losing inches is what's important. Also, a couple of things you could do to speed things along is to add a couple more days of working out to your week. Also, if you do the same thing for cardio all the time, your body will plateau. You need to challenge it. So try a new exercise, join a gym if your not already a member and take classes. As for eating...try not eating after 7 p.m. or making sure your not eating anything processed at all. A clean diet and working out almost every day (within reason) is the ticket. Keep up the good work and you will see results, it just takes time :)
  5. Definetly inches. Do you care what the scale thinks of you, or other people? Also, if you're losing inches but not weight, that means you are gaining muscle, which burns calories even when you're at rest. Which means you can eat more and not gain weight! Congrats on working out and sticking to the gym!
  6. Losing inches but not losing weight probably means you are losing fat and gaining muscle. I lost 2 inches from all over but the scale only showed a 5lb weight loss. According to my drop in body fat, I actually lost 9lb of fat and gained 4lb of lean muscle.
  7. as far as cardiac exercise is concerned you need not attend gym but you should do jogging for 1/2 an hour , that too spot jumping will be ideal. you eat more thinking that you are doing exercise and will be compensated. but ideally u sud follow the rules of body mass index and keep your weight in accordance with your age, height and weight,.to lose weight you need to diet with good amount of fibre rich vegetables in plenty along with normal calorie weight and regular exercises, you will find both your weight and inches lose very well . to avoid getting marks (stretch) you should regularly apply olive oil to the part which is reducing in inches. if any doubt is there e mail me bye
