Why am I losing inches but not weight???

Since September, I have adopted a vigorous workout program (4-5 times a week, elliptical for 30 min at 7.5 mph and recumbent bike for 30 min, heart rate on both usually btwn 180 and 195) and have been eating a lot healthier than before. My clothes feel a bit looser and everyone tells me I am looking skinnier, but I have not lost a single pound! Am I working out TOO hard? Am I failing to lose weight and just building muscle I don't really want? I really want to lose about 20 pounds and I am discouraged that my months of exercise and diet are not working.... Do I need to stay at a certain heart rate to lose fat/weight? Does having too high a heart rate during exercise impede weight loss?

  1. You are losing fat and gaining muscle, which is ideal. Numbers on the scale, in my opinion, are useless. The way your clothes fit are a much better indicator of your success. Keep it up!
  2. You're probably losing fat but gaining muscle mass Since a given volume of muscle is heavier than one of fat, you will gain weight with heavy training, but you'll lose fat, so the net is a healthy change in your favor. Congratulations.
  3. You gain muscles and they are more heavy than fat. This is the reason. Good for you! www best-fat-burn-strategies com
  4. Because muscle weighs more than fat! You are replacing fat with muscle, which is a good thing. Try not to focus on the scale but how you feel and how things are fitting.
  5. they are obviously working fine, who cares what the scale says, it's just a number, it's not like you wear it on your shirt like a indication of beauty or likability. When guys are looking for a girl to get to know they don't say: I wonder what she weighs, they say: Wow she looks good. who cares what the scale says, if you're in shape and looking good what does it matter?
  6. Muscle does weigh more than fat and for your metabolism to increase you need that muscle. From the type of work out you are describing you are gaining a lot of leg muscle (which will help define you legs in summer) it will make it feel as if you are not losing weight. In time your legs will slow down their growth and you will then see the weight drop, unless you start weight lifting. But honestly no one can see your weight, they can only see excess fat, so I would say good job keep it up.
  7. It sounds like you are losing fat and building muscle at the same time. Don't worry, that's a good thing. You may be going too fast on each piece of equipment. If you slow down a little you may lose weight. You should be able to have a conversation while you are exercising. If you are too out of breath to talk, you are going too fast.
