How to lose inches

im losing weight but not inches...?

ive been on a diet for about 2 weeks now. and i do cardio 2-3 times a week and strength training 3-4 times a week. im also in gymnastics i have 1 hour of it on tuesday and 30 min on sunday. so far i've lost about 4 pounds. two pounds each week. i havent lost any inches tho. is it too soon to lose inches? im not sure, i just know that some people have said they lost inches before they lost weight so i thought thats what was gonna happen. haha i'm not sure. i just wanna know if i'm ever gonna lose any inches. my goal is to lose 4 inches around my waist, like 6 around my hips, and maybe a few around my thighs. and i only need to lose about 15 more lbs.

  1. It is too soon to loose inches. Try measuring yourself for lost inches at five weeks and then again at ten weeks. It sounds like you are doing the right things. Two pounds a week is great! The strength training that you are doing will build your muscle (which weighs more than fat, by the way), and it will take a little while longer for that muscle to burn and shrink the fat, on your cardio days, to give you those lost inches. Don't give up! These things don't happen over night. Good luck!
  2. Since your goal isn't far off, I'm guessing you're pretty close to your target weight/size anyway. Don't worry - at your level, it'll take a little time, but it will happen. Careful with the exersize, it's easy to hurt yourself with too much, too fast.
  3. you can not determine where on your body that fat is metabolized. I would change the focus from the taper measure to your body fat percentage. if you get down to the lower end of body fat levels for your age group, you will be happy with what the tape measure says. If you are a competitive athlete you should not be dieting for weight loss while in season. restricting your calories will have a negative effect on your performance
