How to lose inches

Is it possible to lose inches without losing a lot of weight?

I've lost 2 1/2 inches off of my hips and stomach area, yet the scale says I've only lost twelve pounds. Does that sound right to you? Is it possible to lose that many inches without losing a lot of weight? I wansn't overweight to begin with, I just wanted to wear a size 6/8, which fits nicely now. I'm an hourglass shape, by the way. And I'm 5 foot 8

  1. Yup, totally possible. Especially if you're exercising in a way that builds muscle. A lot of people say that your waistline is a much better indication of your health than what the scale says. I kinda agree.
  2. Absolutely. Muscle mass is heavier than fat. What is more important is body fat %. You seem to be doing okay.
  3. "only" 12 pounds. Of course 12 pounds will make a difference. Especially if you are working out and replacing fat with muscle
