How to lose inches

Losing inches.?

I'm 17 years old, 5'4 and weigh about 116-118. I don't want to lose anymore weight, considering that would make me under the average for someone like me. All I'd like to do is lose inches effectively. I do have muscle, I do muscle toning at night (I feel it the next morning, so I know it's working). The problem is, it doesn't show through because of a layer of fat. I'd like to lose merely 1 or 2 inches, but it seems so difficult. I've tried to do cardio at my local gym by riding the bicycle there for about an hour straight and I didn't see or feel any results. I also don't eat fatty foods and I watch my calorie intake and usually stay around 1200-1500 a day. Any advice would be helpful. I'm ready to get rid of this "pudge."

  1. Sounds like you need to incorporate more strength training into your daily routine. You said that you do muscle toniing at night....however, for an exercise to be considered a complete total body workout, you must do both cardiovasuclar and strength training exercises. To accomplish a cardio exercise effectively, you must raise and sustain your heartrate to a target heartrate level, and overload your muscles for strength training portion of the exercise. This means, push more than your muscles are accustomed to...making sure you allow 90 seconds for that myscle to recover before exhausting it again. I am thinking that your idea of muscle toning and what actually IS strength training may be a little different. You can lift something heavy for 5 seconds and be sore the next moring,....doesn't mean that you just accomplished a strength training workout....see the difference? Also, if you do decide to up your exercise regiman accordingly, up your caloric intake too. You can only sustain at 1200 calories for a very short period before your starvation hormones kick in. Also, if you kick up your exercise routine, and are burning more calories, you need more calories to feul your body...just make sure they are in lean proteins, good fats, and lots of fiber....and remember DRINK WATER!!! Stay hydrated!!!Hope this helps!
