How to lose inches


I lost 9 inches off my waist since the last time my trainer measured me, but I gained 3 inches on my stomach?

How does this make any sence? I joined the gym in June, and I decided that I'd get a personal trainer. He's really great. I lost a lot of weight with him. I used to weigh 187 and i'm down to 162. I lost a total of 35 inches throught my body, most of it on my waist. We measured on Saturday, and I was happy to hear that I lost 15 inches in total, but when he measured my waist and stomach (right where the belly button is) he said i gained 3 inches on my stomach??) How is that possible? He said it could be water weight, but 3 inches is a lot of water retention. I don't think it's muscle because I only gained 1 pound of muscle since we last weighed and measured and I doubt it was all in my stomach. I said he measured right above the belly button AND he measured the waistine. They are different parts. and another thing that concerns me is that the fat on my arms is taking forever to come off. I only lost 2 and 1/2 inches since I've lost all this weight...

  2. i'm a little confused. you lost 35 inches, most of it around the waist, but you gained 3 inches when he measured your waist/stomach. how could you have lost and gained from the same area? well, i'll try to answer, anyway. 3 inches is alot to have gained if you've been losing weight overall. it could be that you were measured on an empty stomach last time and your stomach wasn't so empty this time. maybe you were sucking it in last time, not totally relaxed as you should have been. or it could be that you're not training the core muscles (which pull your waistline in) enough. your trainer would be the best person to answer this question, though, since he knows exactly what you've been doing in terms of exercise and diet since your last measuring.
